How do I maintain my PMP certification? Did you know that all certified PMPs and PgMPs must earn 60 Professional Development Units every 3 years to maintain their certification with the Project Management Institute? The Project Management Institute has Registered Education Providers which offer courses for PMPs and PgMPs to earn the required PDUs. One of the easiest ways to maintain the PMP certification is to earn online PDUs from a Registered Education Provider. There are select Registered Education Providers that offer online pdus through online courses.

Typically the student reviews the online materials and then completes a short quiz to earn their certificate showing they completed the course and earned the necessary PDUs. The Project Management Institute does require that the student demonstrate that they achieved learning in the course for it to be considered valid thus the need for some small test to meet this requirement.

Once the PMP has completed the online course from the Registered Education Provider, they need to submit the Professional Development Units for credit to the Project Management Institute. This updates their record with the Project Management Institute to show they have earned the necessary credit to maintain their certification. Note that the PMP and PgMP certificant does NOT need to send in their course certificate to the PMI. The Project Management Institute performs spot audits of PMPs and PgMPs to provide supporting documentation to substantiate earning PDUs. Unless selected for audit, there is no requirement to submit proof of course completion to the Project Management Institute.

One of the many advantages of earning online Professional Development Units through a Registered Education Provider is that the courses are pre-approved for credit by the Project Management Institute and in the official Project Management Institute course database. Simply go to www.pmi.org and click on "Report PDUs" and then follow the directions in terms of locating the Registered Education Provider and the courses associated with that Registered Education Provider.

Great options for online courses from Registered Education Providers include courses such as: Project Management Review, Project Management Core Concepts, A Foundation in Professional Ethics, A Study in Project Time Management, and Course Bundles of Professional Development Units.

Questions to ask any Registered Education Provider before enrolling in an online course for getting PDUs for PMP include the following: How much does the course cost? What are the system requirements for completing your course? Do I need a certain computer operating system and special software? Do I need a high speed internet connection? Is the quiz timed? How long will it take for me to get my course access?

Once again, online courses from Registered Education Providers are a great way to get PDUs for PMP!
